Li Zhan

     Li was born in 1989 and raised in China who has been accepted professional dance training since 9 years old.
     In 2010, Li received her BA degree Major in Choreography in the Department of Dance of Nanjing Art Institute. At the same year, Li came to American to pursue her further study of MFA degree in modern dance, now she is a third year graduate student and a Teaching Assistant in University of Utah, Department of Modern Dance. In the future, Li dedicates herself in to dance performance, choreography and dance education.



    The graduate program in UU allows her took classes and work with many different artists and faculty members, like Andrea Miller, Elena Demyanenko, Yannis Adonoious, Stephen Koester (Chair) etc. And gain opportunities to explore and to develop her as well as to help her searching her own voice. In 2012, Li received scholarship from American Dance Festival. She created her own site-specific dance solo and worked with many artistes like, Monica Bill Barnes, Mark Haim, Pamela Pietro and Ming-lung Yang. Also, took master class with Vertigo Dance Company, Shenwei Dance Company.


     

During her undergraduate study in China, two of her choreographic and self-performed works received the first prize of performance and golden prize of choreography in East China College Dance Festival respectively; also, won the promising talent prize of performance and golden prize of choreography in 1st Music, Dance and Drama Festival of Nanjing Arts Institute. These dance evens one side brought invaluable experiences, another side triggered the idea that to keep absorbing dance nutrients in a border world.

     Li is not only a modern dancer but also has professional training background of Chinese traditional and folk dance and ballet; she also joined a Hip-hop dance crew in her hometown before she studies aboard. So far, Li has performed in Japan, China and Unit State. Since she started her dance career, Li continually explores the dance knowledge and accumulates the diversity of dance through collaborating with different dance styles, culture backgrounds, communities, perspectives, people, and Countries.
